About Bowel Cancer

Hannah Giles

Hannah Giles works as a consultant Hepatologist and Liver Transplant Physician at the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit at Auckland Hospital. Hannah has experience in all forms of liver disease with a particular interest in PSC, PBC, liver disease in pregnancy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Having recently returned from the UK, she spent time working at one of the largest liver transplant centers in Europe (University Hospitals Birmingham), predominantly focusing on immune mediated liver diseases such as PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), PBC (Primary Biliary Cirrhosis) and AIH (Autoimmune Hepatitis). For the last year she has worked as a consultant at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, responsible for co-chairing the liver cancer service, leading the portal hypertension service as well as looking after the large number of patients with metabolic liver disease, alcohol related liver disease and liver transplant patients.

Hannah also has an interest in Obstetric Medicine having worked with the Obstetric Medicine team at Auckland Hospital. She continued this interest throughout her time in the UK managing complex hepatology patients during pregnancy.

Having a strong passion for innovation and clinical research Hannah has recently developed a new regional complex portal hypertension service at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and has presented her own novel research on the role of Mast Cells in Ischaemic Cholangiopathy at the British Liver Transplant Group meeting in 2022.

With ongoing involvement in both clinical trials as well as her own novel research, this ensures she is in touch with the latest developments within the Hepatology field. Hannah believes in holistic patient care and building a strong relationship with patients and is happy to accept referral on any Hepatology related issue.
