Acute nausea and vomiting
This can be caused by an infection, medications you are taking, pregnancy or a wide range of other medical conditions. If your symptoms are severe, ongoing, associated with abdominal pain, chest pain or a fever you should seek urgent medical attention.
Chronic nausea and vomiting
Chronic nausea and vomiting is persistent. This can be a debilitating and frustrating symptom. Its origin can be the upper GI tract or may be caused by non GI problems. Common causes are;
- Functional dyspepsia
- Biliary pathology
- Reflux
- Inner ear problems
- Neurological disorders such as migraine
- Thyroid or an adrenal issue
- Medications you may be taking
