Kumudith Ekanayaka

I am a New Zealand trained gastroenterologist who grew up in the Waikato. I attended Otago Medical School graduating in 1997 and completed my specialist training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in the Auckland region in 2009. In 2010 I embarked upon an 18 month fellowship in Edinburgh focusing on liver disease, liver transplant and therapeutic endoscopy. I currently work at Middlemore Hospital as a consultant gastroenterologist and general physician and have a strong role in medical student teaching.

Areas of expertise:

  • Endoscopy – diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy
  • Liver Disease – particular interest in alcohol related liver disease
  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
