John Llewelyn

John attended medical school at the University of Birmingham in the UK, and subsequently completed his foundation programme as a junior doctor in north Wales before emigrating to New Zealand in 2012. He completed his advanced training in Gastroenterology here, and then undertook a fellowship in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s hospital in Australia.

He was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Tauranga hospital in February 2022. He cares for patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions; commonly with complex IBD, liver disease, Coeliac disease, iron deficiency and irritable bowel syndrome. He also performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and keeping up to date with the latest medical literature is important in his practice to enable the best outcomes for his patients.
